Gradual normalization of consular services

As part of the effort to gradually normalize the services provided to citizens, guidelines were given to the consular network in order to gradually resume their face-to-face activity. For most posts, this process starts between the 4th and 18th of May.

This process takes place with the utmost respect for the safety of workers and the public. To this end, around 300 thousand euros were invested in the purchase of individual and collective protection equipment, such as acrylic separators, masks, gloves and disinfectant gel, already distributed to the consular posts.

Upon return to normal operations, the delivery of documents already available and the appointments for Citizen Cards, Passports and Civil Registration will be privileged. The performance of other acts will be carried out in a progressive manner.

The return to consular operations will be geographically asymmetrical, depending on the evolution of the pandemic and the measures that local authorities can take.

Consular posts in the United Kingdom and Italy, as a result of the measures still in force in those countries, will not be able to restart service to the public before June, subject to the enactment of concrete measures by the local authorities. In the United States, the timing of the return to normality will depend on the decisions taken by the Federal Government and / or by the Governments of the States
